The Danish Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and The Red Cross and Red Crescent European Legal Support Group (ELSG) wanted to increase knowledge of the rules of war and the Red Cross movement, create empathy and promote action towards a younger audience in Europe.
‘If war comes to you’ is an interactive film launched in 10 different language and country versions, set in a fictional war scenario, created to shed light on how the laws of war can reduce suffering in wars and conflicts. You can choose to experience a day from the point of view of three different characters. A civilian girl caught in the middle of the conflict, navigating its complexities and yearning for friendships and freedom. The soldier who leaves behind loved ones to defend their country. Or you can join the mission as a local aid worker striving to bring relief to those affected by the devastating effects of war. Regardless of which point of view you choose, or whether you go through them all, along the way you are presented with a series of choices as well as small notifications, or “clues”, where you can choose to read down scene-specific descriptions of themes within the laws of war. In addition to the interactive film, users can further explore the laws of war on the website.
