Stage Play. In 1913, it was legal to send children through the U.S. Mail. But, a postal employee had to travel along to make sure the “parcel” was delivered safely. Curmudgeonly postman Evergreen Munro is only one week from retirement when he is given an assignment to accompany 9-year old Newton Davenport from Birmingham to the Gulf Coast after the boy is orphaned. The problem is that Munro doesn’t like children, and they don’t like him right back.
